This is the best butchers shop I have ever found. I just wish I had one of this quality near where I live. Excellent Ribeye steak, sausages and pie. Nothing disappointed.

Awful experience with staff today. Young man was rude and didn’t listen. We wanted some braising steaks but they only had small cubes.. he said he could cut up some more cubes (which we said we didn’t want 3 times as we like larger pieces in a stew)so in the end had to buy a piece of topside which we would cut ourselves..he then said in front of us (and a packed shop)to a female colleague “good job Ive got patience isn’t it” and then she smirked and agreed. I also asked for a few packets of pork scratchings which were over the other side of a very busy shop, he told us to go and get our own which we literally could not get too, so the customers had to pass them over their heads to reach us.. he could of just got them for us. We are not a doddery old couple, we are middle aged with sons his age, which I might add would never speak to someone in that tone. We are well educated in very good jobs but were treated like imbeciles. ***UPDATE*** I had a telephone call from the director at Walter Smiths Butchers. He apologised for the young man’s behaviour and will have a chat with him about customer politeness. So I have amended my review score as I think they have tried to make amends.

Very rude and unhelpful. Young lad that served me was unpleasant and made me feel like I was a massive hindrance. I only wanted to support a local business by buying their products but I won’t return after today.

I don’t usually ever leave reviews let alone a negative one. However I feel like it’s absolutely necessary. I thought to try this place out earlier this week - purchased 2 rump steaks. I had a sign the meat was not fresh before buying it, but I thought to try it anyway. Since eating them, I’ve had terrible food poisoning for the past 3 days. I asked the butcher about the source of the meat and whether it was grass fed or not and he had no idea, and looked almost confused as if no one had asked him before. To have a shop selling meat and you don’t even know anything about your own product is crazy to me. This was one of the biggest mistakes buying from here. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but this has been one of the worst purchases I have made. I’ve had food poisoning once before in Africa, which lasted a day. I still have food poisoning over 3 days later and I still haven’t recovered. I’m not trying to scare anyone from buying from here, I’m just sharing my experience.

Really disappointed with the service, the young lad was almost put out to serve, card only? Unfortunately this will be a big take your money to the butcher round the corner! Top prices paid for not so top standard meat...

I agree with a previous post that it’s a shame that this establishment no longer accepts cash. I’ve got nothing against people who only use card to pay but cash is legal tender and should accepted alongside card. I always use Walter Smith Lichfield as I’ve always been a fan of the quality of food but I will never return while they won’t accept cash. My lack of custom probably won’t make a jot of difference but it’s poor service and an own goal from my point of view. Happy to shop elsewhere.

Fantastic place. We have tried so many of the products here, from cooked meats and sausages to joints, and all are first rate. How do they make such good pastry for pies and pasties? They shame the so-called up-market supermarkets. Delicious!
