The house is next to Lichfield Cathedral. Although the museum was closed the time I went, the garden was still open.

Lovely little find. Didn’t go in just wandered outside.

This is a lovely little museum about the life of Erasmus Darwin (grandfather of Charles Darwin). I'd never heard of him before going to Lichfield, and had no idea that so many of Charles' theories of evolution were potentially based on his grandfather's ideas and theories. Erasmus it seems was a quite remarkable man - well ahead of his time on the idea of education for women, separation of church and state and much more. A few of the exhibits weren't working, and many were obviously designed for school trips or the like. Personally I'd like to have seen more detail of his ideas for evolution. The lady at reception was fantastic - very enthusiastic and informative, and incredibly helpful. Well worth the few pounds entry fee.

A very interesting and informative place. The garden is lovely, and there are several rooms detailing the life of Erasmus Darwin. There are toilets located on the ground floor. Floors are accessible by stairs or lift. It was definitely worth the £5 per person entry fee.

The property is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, as it was the home of the famous physician, poet, and philosopher, Erasmus Darwin.

Intriguing garden and setting with a real touch of history and awe. Didn’t go in the house but pop round the front and see the unsettling mannikin in the window.

Interesting museum in Darwin’s house. Lots of surprising facts and interactive exhibits, so interesting for all the family. Pretty garden to walk through with all the medicinal plants that would have been important. Wonderful views of the Cathedral from the windows. Worth a visit, friendly staff.

Small museum run by volunteers who have a passion for their work. Lots of interesting information, presented well. Definitely worth the £4 to get in. Wow what a truly enlightment figure and family. I loved the circular family tree that showed the links and relationships to key thinkers, from Charles Darwin to John Maynard Keynes. I would love this more if it was presented on a larger horizontal table format. Easier to read. Also great exhibition of the work of a local artist.

Great place to visit in Lichfield. Advice: go on Saturday and take the 1.30pm cellar tour. It costs only £2 and they give a tour to the cellars. Not only that, the staff even talked about the history of Darwin in the context of the history of Lichfield. It was a very pleasant tour. The staff described a lot of details that made ever single room on the house very special. He even spent a lot more time with was than what was previously said to us. The staff is friendly and the house tour is short but very interesting. In the garden, there is a "secret" path that leads to ankther beautiful garden with local houses like the one in the pic I attached. It's a lovely place.
